We tested the Audi Q5 Sportback, a very sporty SUV

We tested in detail the new Audi Q5 Sportback, an SUV coupé that already offers all its hybrid engines at various levels. We highlight great ride comfort and low noise levels.

The Audi Q5 Sportback is already 43% of the sales of the new Q5, with its slim rear that slopes very sharply from the rear pillar at 4.69m in length, 2mm lower than the original Q5 and with an identical width. Know more about Volvo ne shitje.

In this way, we see how the brand follows market trends and dares to introduce new bodies and sporty SUV models. Demand is showing a rapid move from saloon and station wagon bodies to this type of SUV for some time now.

A very specific design

The exterior of the Q5 Sportback is very specific with its Singleframe grille with a “honeycomb” type finish , new full-LED headlights that can optionally be adaptive matrix, and large air intakes in the bumper with aluminum inserts.

In its profile, the side skirts with their off-road style molding are clearly visible, although it is at the rear where the car fundamentally expresses its style , with a large spoiler, a bumper with a new design diffuser and a chrome strip that links LED pilot lights (with up to 4 different light signatures if you mount OLED technology, which is optional).

The final visual result expresses an interesting dynamism and exclusivity that leaves no doubt as to being a completely new body of the model.

Inside it is identical to the reference model from which it comes, with a 12.3″ “Virtual Cockpit plus” configurable instrumentation screen and the 10.1″ MMI Touch central screen.

The Audi Q5 Sportback is approved for 5 seats and does so with a very spacious interior, with a very good-sized boot and well-thought-out modularity that includes the longitudinal displacement of the Plus rear bench seat.

Offer of all hybrid drives

The range of engines on offer is very wide, both in gasoline and diesel , always associated with a 7-speed S-tronic transmission and with micro-hybridization (mHev) at 12 V in the following engines:

  • 35 TDI ( 163 hp), front-wheel drive
  • 40 TDI (204 hp) , with optional front-wheel drive or quattro all-wheel drive
  • 45 TFSI (265 CV) , with the two possible tractions

The new plug-in hybrid versions are also added , which have already generated at least 20% of the orders for the model and which combine the 265 hp 2.0 TFSI 4-cylinder gasoline engine with a 105 kW synchronous electric motor (which is integrated in the S-tronic box) and powered by a new battery with a capacity of 17.9 kW/h:

  • 50 TFSIe 299 hp
  • 55 TFSI e 367 hp

Both variants have the top speed electronically limited to 239 km/h (135 km/h in 100% electric mode), with acceleration from a standstill to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds and 5.3 seconds and standardizing a maximum autonomy in electric mode 62 km , with consumption between 1.5 and 1.7 litres/100 km.

Finally, a version with a super sports SQ5 propeller is offered , with a V6 3.0 TDI of 341 CV and a torque of 700 Nm, incorporating a light hybridization ” Mild Hybrid ” at 48V and with quattro all -wheel drive and a gearbox. 8-speed Tiptronic . Accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h in just 5.1 seconds with consumption of up to 8.2 litres/100 km .

Driving that generates great satisfaction

The test was carried out with the 55 TFSIe , both on motorways and mountain roads, showing great ride comfort typical of Audi, to which is added an absolutely pleasant ride silence.

Given the regenerative capacity of the battery , it was possible to travel up to 70 km in 100% electric mode (13% more than what was officially approved), thus demonstrating that the hybrid system mounted by Q5 Sportback is really effective.

The heat engine started to work a few times on the test run, only at times when the required acceleration was more intense or in some overtaking, not assuming a notable increase in the noise inside the passenger compartment and always with low levels of noise or rolling thanks also to a super well achieved aerodynamics.

The operation of the standard sports suspension (with optional damping control) is striking , although it optionally has an air suspension for those who need to drive off-road, which allows the height of the body to be adjusted by 60 mm and also lowered. for highway driving at high speeds.
